There are few problems that can’t be addressed with restorative dentistry. Still, in some cases, tooth removal in Irvine is your best option to keep your mouth healthy. An extraction isn’t a problem for Dr. Charles Tozzer, who has performed plenty of them in his 40 years of practicing dentistry.
In addition to the expertise of Dr. Tozzer and the rest of our team, we’ll ensure your extraction goes well with:
If you think you have a tooth that may need to be removed, call us ASAP at 949-857-1270. If it’s an emergency, we’ll do our best to see you for a same-day appointment. We reserve spots in our schedule for emergency care.
While you may not want to think about much more than your immediate recovery at first, don’t wait too long to talk to us about replacing your tooth. We’ll numb your mouth with local anesthesia, so the extraction won’t hurt. You can also choose to receive one of our three kinds of dental sedation to make the experience less stressful. Most patients experience some bleeding, discomfort, and swelling during the first 24 hours after their procedure. We’ll provide instructions on how to care for your extraction site, including how to relieve discomfort. We may also prescribe medication for pain relief.
Typically your mouth will feel fine within a few days and fully heal within two weeks. It’s important to encourage blood clotting for the quickest healing. We’ll provide suggestions for how to do so. We recommend taking it easy for a full day following your procedure. Depending on the nature of the extraction, most patients will probably feel up to resuming normal activity the day after the procedure.
Dry socket happens when a blood clot fails to form at your extraction site or when a clot becomes dislodged during the healing process. It happens in fewer than 5 percent of extractions. You can lessen the odds of it by avoiding behaviors such as smoking and drinking liquids through a straw in the days after your extraction. Symptoms include pain and an unpleasant taste and/or smell. Call us ASAP if you experience these symptoms.
