... are the only dentists have ever known or ever heard about to where I actually can come in, get quality work. It's not going to be a torture chamber. The staff's phenomenal. Their work is impeccable and Chuck is just such a perfectionist.
To have a dentist like this would be the furthest thing from my mind, especially how I grew up. With the old school dentists, with slow drills, burn your teeth, wouldn't wait for the Novocaine to set in. And it was literally a torture chamber for me. So I've done a complete 180 and I hope he never quit dentistry. I don't know what I'll ever do. Seriously, I don't.
It's just the whole concept of how they run their office, the professionalism, the appointments, they're always ready for me. Everything always goes according to plan. If there's a problem, there's always a plan B, and it's treated with the utmost importantcy to every little bit of a problem I have. They always look to fine-tune what they do. And it's just a pleasure to come into this office. I don't know if I can say that about any other medical practice, whether it's an orthopedic surgeon, a cardiovascular surgeon, dentist. This is a very, very safe place to be to come to. I feel very comfortable.
Dr. Tozzer, his bedside manners and what does he like? He likes the patient, first of all, to get very comfortable. He listens to what you want. He diagnoses what he can do and he gives you options. He doesn't slam dunk anything. He doesn't force anything. But it's just his nature. He's just such a great guy. You feel very at ease. And when you meet somebody for the first time, first impressions are everything. And you just meet these guys, or if you meet somebody at a party, "I like this person." Or, "I don't know why, but just like this person, there's something good about them." Or, "Don't like this person. I'm like, eh."
Chuck is just like my God, you walk in and no matter what problems you have with your mouth, you know it's going to be taken care of in the most efficient way possible. So that makes me very comfortable. It always has and always will.
When I came in here I was a train wreck looking for a plane crash. I mean, I hadn't been to the dentist in years, I was getting married, and you know photographs you see of festivities there you are smiling, and you can see a rotten tooth. You're like, ugh. And I didn't want to go through it so I decided to bite the bullet. Dr. Tozzer sent out a letter, and kind of hit on all the topics about what my fears were, and how he handles them, and long story short I've had bridges, I've had crowns, I've had implants.
I let me dental health really slide so there's a lot of work that needed to be done. The crown was the easiest, the most cost-effective, and the best way to go. So when he first put the crown on, the temporary crown, it was so damn good. I'm like, "Why we bothering with another one?." And he goes, "No, no. This is just a temporary." And the temporary looked so good. But then, they make the crown, then you come back, I don't know a month later, whatever it is, and they put the new crown in.
I was very comfortable throughout the whole thing, and he just basically goes over it from nuts to bolts. He said, look, this is what you had. This is what works been done. This is what we need to do. This is how we do it. So he walks you through the process from A to Z, and you go, okay. You get the timeframe, and you get the procedures, and it happens, and it happens on time, according to plan, all the time.
Dr. Tozzer, he's a perfectionist, and he gets it done.
!I love coming to this practice because the staff, the team, the people that are here, they've done one thing I've never seen in any other dental office. They really genuinely care. Not only through their time and their effort they spend with you before you go into the room, but the time they take after you leave the dental office and Dr. Tozer has done everything I could ever possibly imagine by showing me just how much he really cares about me and my family.
The one thing that sets this practice apart from any others I've been to is you're not just a number. I mean when you walk in this office, you're greeted with a smile that can warm a crowded room. I mean, they really do genuinely care about you and they care about not just your health and your wellbeing, but who you are as a person. Every other practice I've gone to and I've been to different dental offices all throughout Southern California, most of them, you come in and you become a number. You become a statistic, you become a billing record. At Dr. Tozer's office you become part of a family and being part of that family means more to me, my wife and our children than almost anything else.
I've been coming to Dr. Tozer's office for well over 20 years. I met this office and this team and these people before I was married, before I had children, and I've stuck with them for all of that time because there's no one else I want to bring my children to. All three of our daughters, they're young, they're 11, and 13, and 15 and my beautiful wife for 16 years, we've always come to Dr. Tozer because we trust them. And I can give you incident after incident and time after time when we needed to call upon them, whether it be Sunday afternoon or Friday night because I broke a tooth watching the football game. I can call Dr. Tozer's office and I knew I'll get someone on the phone and I'll know if I need to get in to see somebody, they'll be there for me. So I trust them and that's what's really important to me and my family.
When I first started going to Dr. Tozzer's office, I wanted one thing, a better smile. I wanted to stand up, express my smile in front of a crowded room and make sure I had the perfect sparkling smile and the greatest teeth. And he gave that to me. So, the very first thing I did was to actually have all of my top areas of my mouth recrowned entirely. I had the bottom of my mouth recapped as well.
I trust Dr. Tozzer to do all that one because I needed somebody who can really understand what my main goal was. I was in the public eye. I was on stage, I was talking to people, I had thousands of people in the arena. I want to go into that arena, open my mouth and have a great big Chessy cat grin and know that no matter what, you can trust that smile.
So, I started off coming to him just for looking for a new cosmetic process, a new look for my face and it ended up going beyond that one. We went into crown replacement. We had a bridge put in. There's all these things you get as you grow older in life.
Now I'm north of 50. In 20 years of coming here, almost half of my life I've trusted to Dr. Tozzer. I've trust Dr. Tozzer with my three children from the first dental appointment they ever had, all the way until the most recent one. They came in for cleaning. My wife, when we got married, I said, "Listen, for better or for worse, we're getting married, but you've got to go to see Dr. Tozzer as well and do the exact same thing."
So, we trusted him to not only take our desires and our hopes and our dreams and turn them into something more. It's not just a dental practice. It's not just fixing a tooth, not just making sure that you've brushed your teeth up, down, left and right. It's about making sure that your goals, your family's opportunities of making something great in your life are aligned with what you really want. And I get that from Dr. Tozzer's office.
Since I've been coming to Dr. Tozzer's office, I've seen nothing but the most amazing attention to detail and quality of care. Because the truth of the matter is, with all the work they've done to my mouth and all the work they've done in my family, it's very, very hard to find a doctor that you can really trust to make certain that every detail is done right.
I can give you an incident after incident. I remember one time I had a crown put in my mouth. A few years passed by and that crown had cracked. Dr. Tozzer brought me back in, put me in the chair, looked at that tooth and says, "You know what? It's not perfect." He pulled it out, put another one in and says, "Don't worry about it. I got you taken care of."
The quality of care is one that is going to last a lifetime. It's not talking about going to a dentist and saying, "Please drill a hole, fix a cavity, do this or do that." It's about going to a member of your family and saying, "I'm trusting you with the most important thing I have, which is my smile, my health and my life."
I had a really bad toothache and frankly, I needed a root canal. I came into the office, had a normal appointment, went through the process and that evening it just began to evolve. An abscess had created and pain was just overwhelming me and I'll never forget. It was about 10 o'clock at night and I had to call the office and I was in excruciating pain by 7:00 AM the next morning, Dr Tolzer met me here with one of his assistants and we sat for hours in the chair on a Sunday morning taking care of my mouth and that root canal and that abscess and what happened on that one time and I won't get that from any other dentists.
You can't turn around and say, I found a guy by Googling him or finding a review online, but I know at three o'clock in the morning when you're in deep pain, you're going to call on that dentist. See Dr Tolzer is family. He's a guy I can turn to and know that no matter what, I am taken care of day or night, morning, noon, afternoon, no matter what the need is, when it comes to my dental care, I trust Dr Tolzer. I trust his team and I trust, no matter what happens, he's the guy, he's a team, he's a doctor, Dr Tolzer is the guy who will take care of me and my family.
For me, the process of having cosmetic dentistry done was petrifying. It was literally as scary as you could possibly think when you're going to have all of your teeth or a few of them, if you will, removed and replaced with something different. What Dr. Tozzer did, which is something I never expected, was he made me feel comfortable with the process by explaining each and every step of the way. He explained to me that the color match has got to be consistent across each and every one of my teeth. He explained to me about the health situations that I might be facing during this cosmetic surgery. He made me comfortable to know that it's something I really want to do because the result was there that I could understand and I could realize what changed my life for the better. He sat down with me, brought in a specialist who was a color mount specialist.
I never knew that someone's job is to literally take a tooth and take your existing tooth and give you an idea of what you might look like and help you find the right color and the right match. I didn't know what a porcelain crown meant versus a metal crown. All I knew was what I learned years and years ago, or watched some television show, but Dr Tozzer took the time to explain the true process, the medical nature, all the ups, the downs, the goods, and the bads to make me feel comfortable. I look at Dr Tozzer, I can know one simple truth. I trust him. I trust him with my family. I trust him with my children. Over the past 20 years, there's no one I would go to but him.
Well, from the very first time I walked in, I was looking for a dentist. I was very nervous because this filling had fallen out in the very back of my mouth. I couldn't find a dentist who would just fill the tooth. Dr. Tozzer came recommended to me, and I called and right away they said, "Well, do you have pain?" I said, "A little bit of pain." They said, "Well, is it completely fallen out?" "Yes." "Well if you have pain, get in here right now, right now." They made time for me. I literally got up from my desk, came over here, he filled the tooth.
Since then, I've been coming here many, many years, lots of years, and without fail I've gotten exactly what I needed, exactly what I wanted. I've had fillings, I've had all of my top teeth redone because of the darkening that happened. I'm really pleased with it. Everything fits and that's nice. Like I said, he does his trial run thing where he puts crowns in, I've had crowns, he puts the crowns in and then you try them out for a while, then you come back if they fit.
Another thing that he did once that I thought showed a lot of integrity is that one of my crowns had something wrong with it, and he said to me, "Well, that's wrong," he says, "We have to redo that." Right away I'm thinking, oh my gosh, this is going to cost me so much money. He said, "No, this doesn't cost you anything. This is a defect, that's what we do. We're going to fix this." I've had crowns, I've had fillings, I had my regular six month checkups that include the x-ray. I think he's very conscious of just keeping your mouth in really good shape, really good condition. That means a lot.
My teeth started to darken. It felt like it happened overnight. Of course, I go through my routine every day, and I brush my teeth twice a day and I floss. I do all my good things. Now, I'm water piking like crazy and I, you know, smiling, "Well, gee, they're getting dark. They're getting darker." And like I say, I made an appointment and came in and he explained to me what was going on. As you get older, your enamel weakens. It wears down and dentin is a different color. So as it weakens and it wears down, that dentin, the color of the dentin, will start coming through. So you know, there are only so many options that you can do, but because the enamel is really thin, you can't put like just a cap over the front of them, like a lot of people can have done.
He explained to me what my options were. "Sure, you can try to do that." "Will it work?" "Yeah." "Okay." But I was really pleased because I think he was honest with me and as you can see, it turned out really, really well. So I was very pleased with that. The only option I had really was crowns. And it was interesting because I thought he would do just the first four teeth straight across. But it was interesting. He says, "No, smile for me." Well, when you smile, you have to take into consideration all the teeth that are going to show. The back teeth had already had crowns and so that was my option. That was a realistic option that I had, was to do them all the way across, all the way to here.
I'm a big smiler anyway, and I've always been actually really proud of my teeth. When they started going dark, it worried me because my left tooth got really, really, really weak and it actually had a divot in it. I could not lift my top lip because cold air would hit it and it hurt. So I knew that it was getting very thin anyway. So since then, yeah, I've been very pleased. I've been very, very pleased with it. And I'm a big smiler. I mean, how do you go around ... That's not good.
I love coming to Dr. Tozzer's office for a multitude of reasons. The first one, of course, is Dr. Tozzer himself. Secondarily, their staff, particularly Michelle, is very, very friendly. They always have treats. They always have a good attitude and very importantly, they are always on time. I don't know of any doctor's office where you don't sit around and wait, and this is definitely one of those. I have been coming here for almost 20 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else, primarily because of the quality and the shape he's been able to keep my teeth in for the last two decades.
The quality of care here is the highest I've ever experienced. I mean, I'll tell you, I moved. I live 50 miles away. I actually started within two miles of this office back in 1991 and so I've moved. I was in Irvine and I moved up to Long Beach and I tried to dentist up there, didn't work out, came back down here. Then I moved to Costa Mesa and then I was still coming here. Then I moved all the way to Palos Verdes, which is 50 miles north and that's over an hour without traffic. That's a qualifier here in Southern California, without traffic. And basically, I just keep coming back because I've tried other dentists and they just do not have the high level quality of care.
I'm in sales, so my teeth and my appearance really, really matter and the last thing that I need to do is be self-conscious about my teeth. Dr. Tozzer is very friendly. He can put you at ease. I think initially I did have some anxiety issues, particularly when it comes to root canals and that kind of thing and he very much puts me at ease. As a side note, he's just a wonderful person. He does charity work, literally around the world for the underprivileged that cannot afford dental care. He gets other dentists together in groups and goes and performs those activities, on top of a full-time practice and he takes long weekends to do this. So he's just an amazing human being, on top of an amazing dentist.
Basically, my tooth was rotting out of my head. And so normally with an implant, I checked with the other dentist, you have to go get the implant put in and then get a temporary crown and you have to wait. There's a waiting period, right? Dr. Tozzer is so good and he has a great network of people that he was able to work with an implant specialist and they actually got the implant put in and the temporary put on all in one day. So, I had it all done in one day and then I came back just to get the permanent crown two weeks later.
And I've had this in for a decade and it's really, really challenging just to do one. Most people will actually take the second tooth out because they want them to match, but I trusted Dr. Tozzer not just... "Okay, I'm going to try it. I'm game, let's do one." And it came out just flawlessly. Again, this has been in here for 10 years and it still looks great, functions great, no pain, no problem. The gum grew back around it properly. It's just, I'm thankful almost every day for it.
The reason that I wanted to look into teeth whitening is, as I mentioned, I'm in sales. Also, I do have an implant, which is this one right here, and I trusted Dr. Tozzer's office to do the whitening so that it would match my implant. And I do drink coffee and tea and some Diet Coke, so just inevitably, my teeth need to be whitened. I feel like the whitening adds a ton of confidence to my job, I mean, to my everyday life. I am getting a little bit older and so my teeth tend to yellow more quickly and I'm in a world full of younger folks with bright white, perfect teeth, so definitely makes me feel younger. It makes me feel more confident and I love it.
I love coming to this practice because 11, 12 years ago, I hated my smile. I like nothing about it. I was that person who never wanted their picture taken. People would say, "Come on, I want you to get in this picture," and I'd say, "No," because I was embarrassed to my smile.
I didn't care for the dentist that I was going to at the time. I saw an advertisement going around and it was for Dr. Tozzer's office. I called and talked to Michelle. Michelle is the receptionist at Dr. Tozzer's office. I told her basically what I was looking for. She told me to come in and have a consultation with Dr. Tozzer and tell him all of my concerns about my smile and what I didn't like and he would give me options. I decided to make an appointment.
I came here and the staff at Dr. Tozzer's office is incredible. They're great, friendly, nice. They never made me feel bad about myself or my smile at the time. I didn't like it and I was embarrassed about it. Dr. Tozzer sat me down and he took x-rays and went over all of my options for what I could do to improve my smile. I really liked the way he cared about me. He made me feel like I was the only patient he had. He made me feel important, and that was a big deal to me. I walked out of here feeling good instead of feeling bad.
I thought about what he said. I came back for a second consultation because I had narrowed it down to two options, possibly doing veneers or porcelain crowns. I had some teeth that were crooked. He sent me to an orthodontist to see if it was even possible for the teeth to be removed without having to do braces because I didn't want to have braces and the orthodontist was really nice and afterwards he said, "Are you going to have porcelain crowns with Dr. Tozzer?" I said, "I am not sure yet. I'm still contemplating it. I am looking at the options." He said, "Well, I just know he does phenomenal work and you can trust him." I already trusted him. He made me feel at ease. I came back and I said, "Let's do it." I've never regretted it.
I asked him, I said, "Dr. Tozzer, how do I get that movie star smile? How do I get that smile?" And he said, "Well, pretty much you have to do all of your teeth." I said, "Every one of them?" And he said, "Yes, every one of them would have to be done to get that movie star smile." And so I ... You know, that's a lot to take in, every one of your teeth as a porcelain crown? And then I thought about it and I said, "But I want that smile." And how much did it mean to me? You have to make it a priority. It's not just your teeth, it's also your health because your teeth is part of your health. And I said, "Do I want it that bad?" And I did. I wanted it that bad to make it a priority.
Dr. Tozzer walked me through all the steps that was necessary in order to get to the finish line, and the first steps were taking molds of my mouth, we did a lot of molds, and to make sure that every tooth ... because each one of my crowns is individual, and to make sure every one of them matched my original tooth. And so it was a process, but it was a process I would happily go through again.
Once he took a mold, he'd take another mold. We took a lot of x-rays, and eventually the bottom was done first. I remember after he had done the bottom, it was so white, it made my tops look terrible. I remember I didn't want to smile for the next two weeks because I couldn't get my tops in for two weeks. And so I came back and had the tops put back in, put in permanently, and I cried. I looked at myself for the first time, and I cried. I think Dr. Tozzer was like, "Are you happy?" And I said, "Oh, my gosh, this is way more than I expected." I was thrilled, and I've never regretted it.
