In his 40 years of practice, Dr. Tozzer has seen many dental emergencies. Some of the most common ones are broken teeth, severe toothaches caused by infected teeth, and broken dental restorations. We reserve time in our daily schedule for handling emergencies, so we can quickly relieve any discomfort you’re feeling.
Some emergencies are more time sensitive than others. If a tooth gets knocked out, you’ll have the best chance of saving it if you can see us within an hour. We’ll give you directions on how to transport the tooth to our office. Most other emergencies can wait a day or so. We’ll give you directions on what to do to minimize discomfort until you can see us.
You can certainly go to the ER for dental emergencies, but be aware that a dentist will probably not be available to treat you. They will most likely offer you pain relievers and/or antibiotics to control an infection until you’re able to get a dental appointment. Infection can be serious, so you should go to the ER if you’re in severe pain or if you’re experiencing fever with pain and/or swelling.
