The degree of anxiety you feel at the dentist can vary greatly, depending on the treatment you’ll receive. You may feel only a little nervous about getting a dental crown but much more worried about a root canal. Yet many dentists offer only a single choice of sedation. To ensure you’re relaxed for any procedure, we offer three kinds of dental sedation:
Whether or not you receive dental sedation, our welcoming atmosphere will help you feel relaxed. If English is your second language, simply communicating with our staff may stress you out. We have team members who can speak with you in Japanese, Thai, Laotian, or Tagalog!

We offer three kinds of sedation: laughing gas, oral sedatives, and IV sedation. They are administered in different ways and offer varying levels of relaxation. Dr. Tozzer will discuss the options with you so you can select the one that will work best for your anxiety level and the type of treatment you’ll be receiving.
It varies, depending on the type of sedation you choose. Laughing gas, which is inhaled through a small mask, is administered continuously. It takes effect quickly and wears off fast. The effects of both oral sedation and IV sedation may linger up to a few hours after your procedure. IV sedation typically lasts a total of one to six hours, while oral sedation can last up to eight hours.
Over the years, we have found that at least one of our three sedation options will benefit any patient. If you’re nervous about your visit with us, you’ll have your choice of sedation options. We’ll discuss each one in detail, answer any questions you have about sedation, and help you decide on the method that’s right for you.
Dr. Tozzer teaches about sedation safety at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC and also works for the state of California to ensure that other dental professionals comply with sedation safety regulations. All three kinds of sedation available at our office have been safely used in dentistry for many years.
