Symptoms like bleeding gums and bad breath are bad enough. In its advanced stages, however, gum disease can cause you to lose teeth. Not only that, but research indicates it affects more than just your oral health. Studies link diseased gums to serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Fortunately, we can return your gums to health with gum disease treatment in Irvine.

Depending on the severity of gum disease, treatment can range from a thorough dental cleaning to removal of diseased tissue followed by a gum graft. For later-stage gum disease, we use an FDA-approved treatment called LANAP (laser-assisted new attachment procedure). Compared to traditional periodontal treatment, LANAP is:
No matter which treatment you receive, we’ll numb your mouth with local anesthesia. If you’re nervous or concerned about discomfort, you can also receive one of our three kinds of sedation.

Our gum disease treatment causes minimal discomfort because we use a laser. A laser makes it quicker and easier to remove bacteria from the “pockets” between your teeth and gums. In later stages of gum disease, a laser removes diseased tissue with no cutting or stitches needed. This results in less post-procedure tenderness and swelling and faster healing. We’ll use local anesthesia, and you can receive dental sedation if you’d like.
In its early stages, a thorough cleaning can reverse the effects of gum disease. We also use a two-part treatment called scaling and root planing. It involves removing bacteria from pockets between teeth and gums, then smoothing your tooth roots to make it more difficult for bacteria to accumulate there. In later stages, we use a procedure called LANAP (laser-assisted new attachment procedure) to eliminate diseased tissue.
If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth, or at other times, you may have gum disease. Other gum disease symptoms include chronic bad breath, gum tenderness and/or swelling, and gums that appear more red than pink. In later stages of gum disease, gums will recede away from your teeth, and your teeth may feel loose.
